As you can imagine, we get asked all kinds of questions by anxious parents during a head lice removal treatment session. One common question in the summer is “can head lice survive when my child is swimming?”

The short answer is yes. 

In more detail for you curious caregivers, head lice can survive being submerged for up to 8 hours and chlorine levels found in pool water will not kill them. Swimming and bathing  will not eliminate or slow down a growing head lice  infestation.
